Some of the Committee and Volunteers went to St Andrews Museum to see the Exhibition “Flooring the World” which runs until 1 Sept. This was a really interesting visit where we were given an excellent talk by Lily Barnes from OnFife. There here were three Flooring companies in Fife in Kirkcaldy, Falkland and of particular interest Newburgh (Tayside Flooring Company).
Of all the famous people to visit Newburgh through the ages, Mary Shelley is probably one of the less well-recognised names. And yet the book she wrote is one of the most instantly recognised – ‘Frankenstein’. What’s more, she wrote it when she was only 18; and her visit to Newburgh took place in 1812…
The new Perth Museum housing the Stone of Destiny was opened. Also of interest to locals of Newburgh area is the Carpow Log Boat which is housed in the Perth Museum. It was excavated at the Carpow bank, near Abernethy, in 2006 and illustrates the importance of the estuary to prehistoric communities. Dating to c1000BC…
